INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTORS TO FULLERENE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Manuscripts on all aspects of the topic are solicited. Authors are invited to suggest names of scientists whom they consider to be able to act as referees of their manuscripts. Submission of manuscript is taken as an implicit understanding that the material has not been, is not being, and shall not be published elsewhere.

Since communications will be reproduced by photographing the author's typewritten manuscript, it is essential that the manuscript be prepared properly. Any communication which cannot be directly photographed without revision will be returned to the author so that the required changes can be made.

The following specific instructions must be followed.

1. Manuscripts should be typed double spaced, using black carbon or plastic ribbon if available, or a new cloth ribbon if carbon ribbons are not available, on good quality white bond paper measuring 8 ½ inches wide by 11 inches deep. (Do not use Corrasible bond or its equivalent). An original copy must be submitted.

2. The typist should ensure clean, even impression of letters. Electric typewriters are preferred.

3. The typing area of the article opening page, including the title, should be no more than 5 ½ inches wide by 7 ½ inches deep. The typing area of all other pages should be no more than 5 ½ inches wide by 8 ½ inches deep. All formulas should be typed in or carefully prepared in permanent black ink using drawing instruments.

4. The title should be in all CAPITAL LETTERS, centered on the width of the article opening page with the title two inches from the top of the page. Leave two spaces between the title and the author's name(s). The author's name(s) should be centered on the page with only the first letter of the name(s) capitalized. Leave one space between the author's name(s) and the address(es). Single space the author's address(es) after the name(s), capitalizing the first letter of all main words. Leave two spaces between the author's address and a short, one to four line ABSTRACT, single spaced. Leave three spaces between the ABSTRACT and the text. The principal author should be designated by an asterisk and the statement "To whom correspondence should be addressed," likewise marked should appear as a footnote.

5. Tables should be typed as part of the text but in such a way as to separate them from the text. The title "Table" (with a number if more than one) should precede the table and be centered on the page. Care should be taken that a table does not overlap onto the next page.

6. Formulas, graphs, and other numbered figures should be drawn in black India ink (do not use blue ink) on separate sheets of white paper. They should be sized to fit within the width and/or height of the type page, including any legend, label, or number associated with them. Photographs should be glossy prints. A typewriter or lettering set should be used for all labels on the figures. Figure captions should be typed single spaced on a separate sheet, along the full width of the type page, and preceded by the word FIG. and the number in Arabic numerals. All figures and lettering must be of a size to remain legible after a 20% reduction from original size. Figure numbers, name of senior author, and arrow indicating "top" should be written in light blue pencil on the back or typed on a gummed label, which should be attached to the back of the illustration. Indicate approximate placement of the illustrations in the text by a marginal note in light blue pencil.

7. References (including footnotes) in the text will be numbered consecutively by superscripts. The full references (and footnotes) will be collected at the end of the text. The last names of all authors to any one paper followed by their initials shall be quoted. The title of the journal (Chemical Abstracts abbreviations), the year, the volume number underlined once, and the first page should follow in that order. Books should be cited similarly and include the publisher's name and location along with the year and edition of the book:

Journal: Conrow, R.E. and Marshall, J.A., Synth. Commun., 1981, II. 419.

Book: Collman, J.P. and Hegedus, L.S., "Principles and Applications of Organotransition Metal Chemistry," University Science Books, Mill Valley, 1980; pp. 229-232.

8. Each page of manuscript should be numbered lightly at the bottom of the sheet in blue pencil.

9. To avoid creasing, manuscripts should be placed between heavy cardboards and securely bound before mailing.

REPRINTS

Owing to the short production time for articles in this journal, it is essential to indicate the number of reprints required upon notification of acceptance of the manuscript. Reprints are available in quantities of 50 or 100 and multiples thereof. For orders of 100 or more reprints, twenty (20) free copies are provided. A reprint order form and price list will be sent to the author with the notifications of acceptance of the manuscript.
