The
town of Split developed round the palace built in AD305 by Roman Emperor
Diocletian. Even today the greater part of the palace is well preserved -
on which this artist's reconstruction is based. Diocletian's palace and the
historical complex of Split that surrounds it are registered by UNESCO as a
World Cultural Heritage site.
