Host Institution:

University of Split, Faculty of Science (PMFST), Split: PhD research subjects PMFST

Participating institutions:

Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB), Zagreb: PhD research subjects IRB

Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS), Split: PhD research subjects MedILS

University of Split, Medical School (MEFST), Split: PhD research subjects MEFST

Institute of Physics (IF), Zagreb: PhD research subjects IF

Adjoint Center of excellence:

Interdiciplinary Center for Advanced Science and Technology (ICAST), Split: PhD research subjects ICAST

An Opportunity for You:

The PhD research topics, integrating physical and biological sciences, currently include: Computational biophysics, Design of novel peptide antibiotics, Point-mutations and therapeutic index, Structural bioinformatics, Maximum information entropy and Maximum entropy production as selection principles in enzyme kinetics and bioenergetics, IRB, IF, MedILS and MEFST research topics in experimental biophysics, ICAST research topics such as: Fundamentals for sensing by small metal clusters, Probing protein carbonylation by cluster enhanced fluorescence in the context of biological aging, and Optimal control of light propagation and energy transfer in silver cluster nanostructures at graphene.

Agreement among all participating institutions and international recognition of lecturers ensures high quality of the updated study programme, the entrance from a wide spectrum of different fields, the return to the same scientific disciplines after the PhD according to student desires, and European doctorate or Dual doctorate (cotutelle) if enough time has been spent in foreign laboratories.

For the Application procedure, Preregistration and Frequently asked questions see corresponding links.

At the present time the scholarship fee is very modest (less than 2000 euros) but we do not offer full funding or stipends for students. However, this year (2012) we are initiating actions for getting several stipends for the best qualified students.

Students employed at the University of Split as young researchers will be able to enroll into the Biophysics PhD programme (after positive evaluation by the Study Committee) without paying tuition (12000 HRK per year) in the school year 2012-2013, i.e. only by paying their enrollment fee (300 HRK).

The application period in 2012 ends with October 15.
